We cover the period from circa 1870 to circa 1980 and have negotiated many notable sales in many different media covering all the major artistic movements during this time.
Acting on behalf of private clients we have negotiated sales to major institutions such as the Museum of Modern Art in New York as well to private collectors. We have also successfully acted on behalf of private clients negotiating consignments to the major auction houses.
Amongst the Impressionists we have sold Pierre Auguste Renoir’s "Place de la Trinité", a rare and unusual cityscape by the artist as well as negotiating the consignment of Claude Monet’s "Nymphéas" which sold for a world record price at auction. In the modern field we have made significant purchases for our clients including Piet Mondrian’s "Composition with Blue, Red, Yellow and Grey".
One of strongest areas is that of German Expressionism and we have handled sales involving most of the great masters of this field in both the media of oil and in particular prints. Amongst the oils Emil Nolde’s "Harvest Day" was negotiated to a private collector after being judiciously placed in a major Nolde retrospective exhibition at the Thyssen Bornemisza Museum in Madrid. In the more specialised area of prints we have placed many major images including Ernst Ludwig Kirchner’s "Kopf des Kranken" and "Funf Kokotten". In 2007 we negotiated the sale of several Edvard Munch prints including one for amongst the highest prices ever paid for a print. Modern British prints, and in particular the work of David Hockney, is an important part of our business.
In Sculpture we have handled some of the major artists of the twentieth century such as Henry Moore and Alberto Giacometti and the great Italian horse sculptor Marino Marini whose "Cavallo" we sold in 2006
